The Bob Oliver Baseball Academy (BOBA) is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower our youth by teaching them the fundamentals of baseball, and life skills, which will help them achieve as students, athletes, and adults.    BOBA not only helps with life skills, but prides itself in helping athletes, and others, with diabetes and its related illnesses.   The academy seeks to provide avenues of learning, sharing, and help for those in need of diabetic information and assistance.

      Bob found out that he had Type II diabetes in 1987.  This was a shock to the former major league athlete and his family.  In 2001 Bob was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer.  Bob battled the cancer and has beat it.  He still treats his diabetes everyday and monitors it closely.  At the time of his diagnosis, he found that there weren't as many places to turn to for help and information as he would like.

     Because of this Bob has made it his goal to help children with diabetes and other illnesses find the resources they need.  Bob decided to take his love of sports and combine it with educating kids about dealing with illness.  He wants to serve as a source of support for our youth who may still not fully understand diabetes and how they can live with it.
